Civic Engagement

Bard Baltimore’s social justice and equity mission includes connecting the liberal arts education with real-world issues like racism, gender equality, poverty, climate change, and criminal justice reform.  We offer a college-level course in the theory and practice of civic engagement that links students to topics of interest in the Baltimore area.

Our school also sponsors a Civic Engagement Speaker Series that features local and national social justice activists, community organizers, nonprofit professionals, and many more.  In fall semester 2020, we hosted speakers from these organizations:

  • Sharebaby.org
  • University of Baltimore Second Chance College Program
  • Maryland Food Bank
  • Job Opportunity Task Force

Bard Baltimore also seeks opportunities to apply civic engagement principles to real-world experiences. In November and December 2020, our school community sponsored charity drives for Sharebaby.org and for Johns Hopkins Hospital.

If you’d like to speak, suggest a speaker, or propose a service drive, please contact Dr. Coccagna at [email protected]
