Since its founding in 2011, Bard High School Early College Newark has offered Newark public school students an unparalleled educational opportunity. Through a partnership between Bard College and Newark Public Schools, we make it possible for students to earn both a New Jersey high school diploma and an Associate’s Degree in four years.
BHSEC Newark seeks to demonstrate that an academically rigorous liberal arts education can intellectually engage a diverse group of high school students and prepare them for success. We enable students from across Newark to reach their full intellectual potential and complete a college education during the four years of high school.
Our campus is a center of intellectual energy and community. From our Writing and Thinking Workshops, which begin the academic year, to our Seminar Sequence, to college electives in humanities, mathematics, sciences, and the arts, all of our students enjoy the benefits of a well-rounded, liberal arts education within a close-knit environment of supportive faculty and students who truly enjoy learning from one another. Every day, we strive to live up to the Bard College motto "A Place to Think," by emphasizing the critical thinking skills and habits of mind that help students succeed academically and gain a better understanding of themselves and their place in the world.
