He holds a doctorate from Johns Hopkins University where he specialized in research involving the intersection of K-12 education, queer theory, and transgender studies. Prior to his teaching at Bard, he taught at Murry Bergtraum for six years, and at over three dozen public schools on the Kindergarten through 12th grade levels as an Ambassador Teacher on Rotation. His current research interests involve economics, queer studies, educational access in New York City, and cultural anthropology.
