Matthew Park received his PhD in African History from Michigan State University and his bachelors in History and Secondary Education from The College of New Jersey. His dissertation is on the history of Banjul, the capital city of The Gambia, from its founding until independence. Matthew currently serves as the Chair of the Year II Seminar Program for Bard Early Colleges. In addition to Seminar, he teaches tenth grade Africa in World History and college electives in African history including surveys on the Urban and Environmental History of Africa, The Atlantic Slave Trade and the African Diaspora, Modernity and African Fiction, and Postcolonial African Fiction and Film. He has taught at BHSEC Newark since 2012 and hopes to continue educating bright and talented young people.
