{"id":86,"date":"2021-02-28T13:58:14","date_gmt":"2021-02-28T13:58:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bhsec.bard.edu\/queens\/?page_id=86"},"modified":"2026-03-09T19:07:32","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T19:07:32","slug":"applying","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/bhsec.bard.edu\/queens\/admission\/applying\/","title":{"rendered":"Applying"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Important Announcement (March 2026)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Bard High School Early College campuses of NYC (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens) are looking for more current 8th grade students in the \u201cSWD Applicant\u201d or \u201cDIA SWD Applicant\u201d MySchools priority groups interested in sitting for our assessment.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Please note: students must be eligible to enter Fall 2026 as 9th graders.&nbsp;They should&nbsp;<strong>NOT<\/strong>&nbsp;have taken our assessment in the Fall of 2025.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>As a reminder, our assessment is an in-person, written exam that includes the following:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>a math test (skills through the end of 7th grade)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>a humanities test (read and writing)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>a brief interview with a BHSEC staff member<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Once students sit for an assessment and add themselves to BHSEC MySchools waitlists, we will upload their scores and be able to consider offering them a waitlist seat.&nbsp;<strong>Each BHSEC campus must be listed as a separate school.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>All interested applicants should fill out the following form (due March 27th, 2026 at 5 p.m. EST). Please ask your guidance counselor for additional information about the high school ranking website. Students who are applying from private or parochial schools are advised to speak with their school&#8217;s principal. Students may rank up to 12 non-specialized programs\/schools on the Department of Education High School Application in addition to the specialized and audition high schools. Please note that students who apply to our other BHSEC schools (Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx) must list these as separate choices on their application. Please review program\/school choices and carefully prioritize the list. Our assessments for the 2025-2026 year are in person. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a completed Department of Education\u2019s High School Application on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myschools.nyc\/en\/\">MySchools<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>currently resides in one of the five boroughs of New York City.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the assessment and rubric components<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The BHSEC Assessment was created and developed by the BHSEC faculty and administration to assess applicants writing, thinking, and interest in an early college.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There are three parts to the assessment: a writing prompt, a math part, and an interview. Not all students will be interviewed, only those that do well on our assessment. We will notify students on their interview status within 4 weeks. All students will be notified if they&#8217;ve made it to the interview stage or not. Click <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1VM0zEBg52MTcUpDnBwQswTuChHNyNui2\/view\">here<\/a> for a Reference Sheet regarding our assessment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Rubric components and weights<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.schools.nyc.gov\/AssessmentHS\">Average Course Grades<\/a> \u2013 10%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Humanities Response \u2013 30%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Math \u2013 30%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interview \u2013 30%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Take the BHSEC Assessment<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you register for our assessment please read the requirements and tips listed below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In order to be eligible for possible admissions for <strong>FALL 2026<\/strong>, you must currently be a New York City resident.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You must register for our assessment. <strong>The deadline for families to submit their high school application was December 3rd, 2025.<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>At this time all Bard Queens assessments for applicants to 9th grade are closed to registration.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You must fill out and submit a NYC High School application in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myschools.nyc\/en\/\">MySchools<\/a> listing Bard High School Early College as one of your 12 choices. Ranking order matters. Please rank Bard High School Early College in preference order.
