This resource will help you plan your visit in advance and explain how to access the building, what to expect when you enter, and who to ask for assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Attending an open house or tour is not a requirement for admission to BHSEC. Students are not penalized in any way during the admissions process by not attending these events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Bard Queens, students can expect the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A rigorous, college-focused curriculum that challenges and engages students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A strong focus on transitions from middle school to high school and high school to college<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A diverse student body that reflects New York City and includes students of all interests and learning styles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An inclusive and respectful environment for all students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Easy access to guidance counselors, faculty, and academic advisors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One of the city\u2019s most personalized college counseling programs, with an unparalleled placement record<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Opportunities for all students to engage in the arts, athletics, and a range of extra-curricular activities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An active and engaged parent body<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Director of Admissions Ari Braverman at abraverman@bhsec.bard.edu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Open Houses Fall 2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We&#8217;re excited to offer two Open Houses for interested 8th graders and their families, both from 4:15 &#8211; 7:15pm:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Thursday, October 1 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdMfOpWZ92n3WSTm6XEwVt5XqqaCZ1InhtBmeeOSbKu4OXEHA\/viewform?usp=dialog\">register here<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tuesday, October 6 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSehOyxuVkxdtxdZrTm5bu4fnZ9G_gWEc1NouweNxew_VM9brg\/viewform?usp=dialog\">register here<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will also be hosting a number of tours this fall, but we <strong>strongly recommend<\/strong> that families register for and attend one of our Open Houses. These events will provide a more in-depth look at Bard Queens and will give families an opportunity to meet school administrators in addition to student ambassadors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The evening will begin with Student Ambassador-led&nbsp;<strong>tours from 4:15 &#8211; 5pm<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will then meet in the&nbsp;<strong>8th floor auditorium from 5:15 &#8211; 7:15pm<\/strong>&nbsp;to introduce members of our administration and staff who can answer your questions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you arrive early, please wait in the atrium downstairs until a Student Ambassador can escort you up to the 6th floor. School dismissal happens at 3:35pm and we want to avoid a traffic jam on the elevators!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Please note:&nbsp;<strong>If you arrive at or after 4:45, we will not be able to accommodate you on a tour&nbsp;<\/strong>and will need to direct you to the auditorium.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Open House for Students with Learning Differences<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will also be hosting an Open House specifically for students with learning differences on Thursday, October 8th from 4:30 &#8211; 6:30pm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#8217;d like to attend, please <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSfoc9BpocV35EcOg3tZDFiL7Oppj5cj-HMsThTHVZ9q5sftfA\/viewform?usp=dialog\">register here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Student Ambassadors will lead <strong>tours from 4:30 &#8211; 5:15pm<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everyone will then meet in our Black Box theater from<strong>\u00a05:30 &#8211; 6:30pm<\/strong>\u00a0to introduce members of our administration and staff.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you arrive early, please wait downstairs until a Student Ambassador can bring you up to the 6th floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Please note:\u00a0<strong>If you arrive at or after 5pm, we will not be able to accommodate you on a tour\u00a0<\/strong>and will need to direct you to the Black Box.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students requiring special education services can expect the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul id=\"block-9eb43623-9e10-4c09-a2b9-f8629f486d44\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Personal attention and small class sizes for all students (typically ranging from 20-24 students)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New ICT classes, an engaging curriculum, and the opportunity to earn college credit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In-house staff knowledgeable with IEPs, SE accommodations, and related services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A dedicated learning specialist who works with students on a range of academic support needs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Additional support for writing and math through staff and peer tutoring<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assistive technology, and help with strengthening academic and social skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The InsideSchools website also offers a nice article with advice for visiting high schools.
