Research projects have included: using CRISPR to edit the GIPR gene in human-induced pluripotent stem cells in order to create a differentiated beta cell line to be used for further study of this mutant’s metabolic effects on insulin secretion; testing candidate pharmaceutical chaperones for activity restoration of loss-of-function mutants of the lysosomal enzyme alpha-NAGAL; creating recombinant malaria parasites to test whether the RNA polymerase alpha subunit targets the apicoplast of Plasmodium falciparum. Personal interests include birds, film, languages, social justice, the history of public education in the U.S., and world history.

Prior to teaching, worked as a research and teaching assistant at The Ohio State University. Research focused on the impacts of human disturbances on freshwater ecosystems using a variety of field and lab techniques including fish and invertebrate identification, water quality sampling, and stable isotope analysis. Has published and presented results on the impacts of urban dam removal on riverine food webs. Has worked with undergraduate students in courses like natural resource management, fish biology, religion and the environment, and supported students to design and conduct their research capstone projects. High school teaching experience includes Regents Living Environment and Earth & Space Science as well as supporting students in the IB program.
