A completed in person assessment is required to apply to BHSEC Bronx, in addition to the NY DOE High School Application. Check the Department of Education’s website for deadline information.
About the Assessment and Rubric Components
The 2024-2025 BHSEC Assessment was created and developed by the BHSEC faculty and administration to assess applicants writing, thinking, and interest in an early college.
- There are three parts to the assessment: a math test, writing assessment and an interview.
- Students will be given 1.5 hours to complete the assessment. Students who receive testing accommodations should sign up for the assessments designated for Students With Disabilities.
For 2024-2025 Students will be ranked based on the following rubric components:
- Writing Response 30%
- Math Test 30%
- Interview 30%
- Grade Point Average 10%

All applicants can register here to take the assessment at one of our campuses.
How to Take the Assessment
- In order to be eligible for possible admissions, you must currently be a New York City resident and be in the 8th grade.
- Register for the Bard High School Early College assessment.
- You may only take the assessment once during the 2024-2025 admissions season.

- Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 10:00 am or 1:00pm
- Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 10:00 am or 1:00pm

- Thursday, December 5, 2024 at 4 pm
Students with Disabilities Assessment Dates
Please EMAIL supporting documentation (IEP, 504 Plan, SHSAT Ticket with testing accommodations) one week prior to the assessment date.

- Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 4 pm
A student with extended time as their ONLY testing accommodation has the option to register for the dates below.
