Dear Friends:
Since its founding in 2001, Bard High School Early College has offered New York City public school students an unparalleled educational opportunity. Through a partnership between Bard College and the New York City Department of Education, we make it possible for students to earn both a high school Regents diploma and an Associate’s Degree in four years-all at no cost to students or families.
Our program is rooted in a commitment to a different model of adolescent education. We believe that many students are ready to meet the academic challenge of college work at a younger age, especially when offered a rigorous and engaging curriculum, and when given the chance to work with a highly qualified and supportive faculty that is committed to teaching.
Located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, our campus is a center of intellectual energy. From our Writing and Thinking Workshops, which begin every academic year, to our core curriculum Seminar classes, to college electives in math, science, the humanities, and art, all of our students enjoy the benefits of a well-rounded, liberal arts education. Every day, we follow the Bard College motto “A Place to Think,” helping students develop the skills and habits to succeed academically and gain a better understanding of themselves and the world.
This year marks our 17th anniversary, and we remain committed as ever to the idea of “re-inventing high school.” We welcome New York City students from all backgrounds and of all interests and learning styles to consider joining our early college program. You can begin by exploring our website, coming to an open house, or applying for admission to the 9th grade.
Best regards,
Michael A. Lerner, PhD Principal,
