Activities & Athletics

Bard DC’s Student Activities Center supports our academic mission by contributing to and enhancing the social and cultural life of the school. The Center supports student-led groups and connects students to outside service opportunities and activities.

National Honors Society

Bard High School Early College DC is forming a new chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS). The pillars of the NHS are academic achievement, service, leadership, and character. Students with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above are eligible to apply for membership. Eligible students at Bard DC were invited via email. Students who were interested in membership then applied. They wrote about writing experiences with service and leadership, their commitment to strong character, and their desire to become members of the chapter.

Our chapter is coordinated by two non-voting facilitators: the chapter advisor and the school principal, that will convene the Faculty Council to vote upon student membership. Student members are selected by a Faculty Council after they review written applications, along with the feedback of the school’s teachers.  Membership in any NHS chapter is an honor bestowed upon a student. Students who are not admitted this year are welcomed and encouraged to reapply next year.

Our first Bard DC NHS members will be inducted at the beginning of the school year. Students who are invited into membership will receive an email notification.

ATHLETICS

Bard DC, as a District of Columbia Public School, is a member of the District of Columbia Interscholastic Athletic Association (DCIAA). Students are automatically eligible to participate in any and all DCIAA sponsored sports. If there is a sport Bard DC does not offer, students can identify a DCPS school program they wish to participate in and discuss with the Bard DC Athletic Director & Activities Coordinator Kiah Campbell, [email protected]

Opportunities afforded to our students extend beyond athletic teams and includes panel discussions, high level sporting clinics, and opportunities to participate on the DCIAA Student Leadership Council.  Our athletics offerings will grow as our student population does over the next four years so we ask for patience from our student athletes during this process of building out our athletics program at Bard DC.
