Covid-19 Update

Dear Bard DC Family,

While we continue to operate virtually due to COVID-19, we were happy to develop a reopening plan that invites select students into school for in-person instructional support (link to Reopening Plan).

Schedule:  All students will have a schedule of live virtual classes that meet daily Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, over the course of a seven period day that includes a lunch period. Wednesdays will be reserved for office hours, credit recovery, check-ins with students and informal touchpoints, such as clubs. This schedule will resemble our normal one, preserving teacher planning periods distributed over the week. Classes will begin at 9:30 AM. Advisory will occur on Mondays and Fridays from 9:00-9:30, with a potential extra check-in on Wednesdays for students who need it. 

Invited students who have opted into in-person support will come to school on the following schedule:

Tuesdays 10:00 AM-2:00PM- 9th grade

Wednesdays 10:00AM-2:00 PM Y1s/Y2s

Thursdays 10:00 AM-2:00 PM 10th grade

Student schedules are available  via the Aspen portal (https://aspen.dcps.dc.gov/).

Attendance:  Attendance will be taken in Canvas while we are teaching and learning virtually.  Students will be required to log in to Canvas daily by 11:59 PM to have their attendance taken.  Please make sure that you are logging into Canvas daily in order to be counted!

Grading:  Aspen grade weights have been adjusted as follows: 20% Engagement; 40% Practice and Application and 40% Assessment.  

Student Supports:  Wednesdays will be dedicated to providing student support. In addition to faculty office hours, Patrick Harhai will be running a virtual Learning Commons to provide academic support to struggling students.  

Learning from Home Resources: We will be using DCPS platforms for teaching and learning this term—Teams for video conferencing, Canvas for course content management (Aspen will remain the grade book of record).  We will spend time getting students familiar with all learning platforms.

Login credentials for Teams and Canvas are: 

  1. Username: student ID number followed by @students.k12.dc.us For
    example: 123456789@students.k12.dc.us 2. Password: Student’s network password (same as last year and same as Teams) 6-digit birthday (MMDDYY). 

Please let us know if you are having issues logging in to either system.

Aspen access: Aspen will remain the grading and attendance system of record.  Please ensure that you have access to Aspen so that you can monitor your progress throughout the year.  Please reach out to Dean Gloor (bgloor@bhsec.bard.edu) for parent and student Aspen access.
