Alumni/ae Spotlight Profiles

Zawaad Abdullah | Queens ’17

BHSEC gave Zawaad a platform to understand his needs as an individual outside of just being a student. He had the platform, space, and support to pursue his creative endeavors and education. BHSEC opened him up to difficult discussions, socializing with people with a variety of viewpoints and perspectives, and seeing the world through a lens other than his own. He may not have realized it then, but all those things certainly had a lasting impact. Read more about Zawaad.

Danielle Clapperton | Baltimore ’17

BHSEC ignited a passion within Danielle that was a total mystery prior to her enrollment; her experience exposed her to literature, philosophy, debate, art, and discourse in ways she had never known or experienced. Most importantly, Danielle was previously unaware that not only was she oblivious to the breadth of art and language that begs engagement, but that she would become totally enamored by the beauty of words and wisdom for the rest of her life. Nine years post-graduation, her fascination with these topics is woven tightly into the fabric of everything she is today. Read more about Danielle.

Daphany Rose Sanchez | Queens ’10

When Daphany looks back on her time at Bard High School Early College (BHSECQ), she realizes how much it shaped the foundation of who she is today, both personally and professionally. She was part of the very first class at BHSEC Queens, and to be honest, it was tough. They were figuring it all out as they went, and that experience taught her resilience before she even knew what the word meant. The seminar classes, especially, provided her with the strategies to read critically, assess deeply, and communicate clearly, skills she still relies on every single day. Read more about Daphany.
